Homeopathy FAQ’s

The initial consultation might take up to one hour to discuss the complete history. Usually a follow-up appointment will be scheduled four to six weeks later to determine the effectiveness of the remedy. The patient will be asked to describe all his problems in detail as well as a complete description of everything characterizing him, especially regarding his feelings, sensations, sensitivity, psyche, and all that concerns his organism in terms of energy, sleep, hunger, digestion, etc. The better the homeopathic physician understands his patient and his problems, the better he can individualize and find the specific and most similar remedy for this patient’s disease state.

  1. Do not use the following products while using homeopathic remedies:

Any type of MINT (spearmint, peppermint, and wintergreen) or MENTHOL. (Mint and menthol can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, tea, and chewing gum.) You should avoid chewing gum, as most gum has mint. Sometimes mint is not specifically mentioned in the ingredients, and is covered by "flavorings". Mint-free toothpaste is available at your health food store.

    b. COFFEE or decaffeinated coffee. (Instead, you may drink black teas, green teas and fruit teas.)

  2. Store the remedies in a dark, cool place (not the fridge), away from strong-smelling perfumes, cosmetics, foods, and detergents. Do not carry the remedy in your handbag with cosmetics and perfumes. A dresser drawer with clean clothes is a good place to store the remedies.
  3. Do not touch the remedy with your fingers! Throw away any remedy that has been contaminated.
  4. Do not eat, drink, or brush your teeth 20 minutes before and after you take the remedy. The remedy must be taken in a clean mouth.

Strange but true, in homeopathy we do not treat diseases, but the person who is sick. Whether a person has an acute or chronic disease, all of their symptoms, whether physical, mental or emotional, from a whole representing a state of imbalance very specific to this individual. The goal of the physician is to recognize through the unique expression of symptoms of a patient the pattern of disturbed energy and identify among a great number of remedies available the one most homeopathic, or most similar to the patient’s disease. Homeopathy is the medicine of the individual.

The homeopathic aggravation after the administration of the curative remedy is the reaction of the organism, as it responds to the gently stimulating action of the medicine. This aggravation may only be a slight worsening of the present symptoms or re-appearance of the past symptoms which might have been suppressed with the wrong treatment. The best possible reaction will be appearance of high grade fever which usually lasts for 2-3 days and shall not be treated or suppressed.

In Homeopathy, remedies are selected on the basis of Totality of symptom. The most appropriate remedy suitable to the patient is called similimum. When such a similimum is given to the patient, at times a temporary intensification of the symptoms may occur to the patient. This aggravation shall be mild and usually last only for a short period. Such an effect sometimes occur following the first dose of the remedy or when the remedy has been taken more often than needed or if the person is unusually sensitive.

Most of the homeopathic medicines do not contain pharmacologically active ingredients, but only possess certain dynamic properties. This dynamic effect of the remedy is the one that acts on the patient.   Homeopathy believes that the diseases originate at the life force, which is dynamic in nature and when a dynamic remedy interacts with the life force, it produces an artificial or transient set of symptoms, provided that remedy is similimum. This intensification of the symptom is called Homeopathic aggravation.

The intensity and duration of the similar aggravation gives us a clue about the correctness of the chosen remedy, the patient’s vital force, prognosis, and for case management.

Since homeopathic remedies are devoid of all chemical toxicity, homeopathy is the ideal medicine for people of all ages, even the most sensitive like a newborn baby. Difficulties during pregnancy and the delivery or its aftermath, as well as all the problems experienced by the newborn, can be dealt with very effectively and without side effects with homeopathy.

As incredible as it may be, the majority of such problems normalize with the application of the homeopathic remedy that is the most similar to the state of the patient. Patients who are under psychotherapy will recover as a rule far more rapidly after they begin homeopathic treatment. One can also get rid of the anti-depressants or the anti-anxiety medications with the help of Homeopathy.

If the person has a problem that necessitates a surgical intervention, the homeopathic physician will be the first to refer this patient to a surgeon. But as surgical interventions are a shock to the organism, homeopathic treatment will be ideal to prepare patients for surgery and to help them recover from the operation. Similarly, cases of dislocation and fracture will be dealt with by an orthopedist but homeopathy will be of great assistance to diminish pain and enhance recovery. For less serious physical problems, patients will be referred to chiropractors, osteopaths, massage therapists or other appropriate therapists. Generally, people afflicted with genetic, congenital, metabolic or very advanced degenerative diseases cannot always expect to be cured with homeopathy but are likely to receive effective palliative relief, free of the side effects usually associated with modern drugs.

Homeopathy acts quickly without causing any side effects. The homeopathic system which is proved on human beings is very effective in both acute and chronic conditions. It addresses the problem from the root and establishes harmony in health and avoids frequent visits to Healthcare providers for different problems. Homeopathic remedies are sweet and everyone especially kids love to eat. Homeopathy can be started depending on the current condition instead of waiting, thereby avoiding the deterioration of health and preventing further complications. Homeopathic remedies offer good health.

Many health insurance companies in Canada cover homeopathy.  However, the terms of this coverage vary according to the individual, group, and self-employed plans offered within each corporate division of each company.

Patients are advised to check with your extended benefits carrier whether your policy includes homeopathic treatment (sometimes included under paramedical services).  If your policy does not provide the coverage you require, you are encouraged to be pro-active.  You can write the insurance company, asking them to include homeopathy in your type of coverage.  If that fails, you can instruct your broker or union negotiator to find a plan that does cover homeopathy.
